Recycled polyester is made from waste items such as used plastic bottles and leftover fabric. Recycling saves natural resources and supports a more circular fashion system. However, it is not biodegradable and will persist in the eco -system even as it eventually breaks apart. Polyester fabric, whether recycled or not, is a contributor to microplastic pollution as tiny fibres enter the water system from washing clothes. Recycled polyester doesn’t require new petroleum to create, lowering the demand for new petroleum extraction and reducing our overall carbon footprint. Producing recycled polyester is better for the climate, creating 75% less CO₂ emissions than virgin polyester. In recent years, several of our brands have worked on increasing the use of recycled polyester which reduces our reliance on producing more convention al polyester. However, the issue of micro fibres remains, and we will continue to look at how we can contribute to addressing this through our partnerships with organisations such as the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
